How does the external benchmark work?
The external benchmark allows you to compare your performance with that of your competitors or other companies in the same sector. By analyzing data from external sources, you can identify opportunities for improvement and best practices to adopt in order to optimize your results.
Which companies does the external benchmark compare us to?
- Top 5: Access the top-performing companies in the rankings. For each label, we provide a benchmark representing the best companies. We create rankings by category and by country. To establish these rankings, we take the top 5 companies in each employee size category for our main countries.
For example, for the HappyIndex®AtWork Top 5, we take the top 5 of the 7 categories for France, as well as the three top 5 for Spain and Italy.
- Global: Shows the average of all companies that have participated over the past five years. This ranking is updated daily.
- Sector: Same as the Global ranking, but filtered only for companies within your sector.
Some questions in our models are less than five years old. For these, the results include all responses to that question since its creation.
How to read it?

On the first line, you will find the average positive opinion rates and the number of respondents for your survey, as well as for the benchmarks.

Finally, by expanding the dimensions, you will find the associated questions.
You will also see the delta between your results and those of the competition.
For example, here the favorable response rate regarding work modes is 1.5 points higher than the average of other companies.
N/A here means that the question did not exist last year.
How to get an external benchmark for the current year?
These benchmarks are highly reliable, as they aggregate the results of several thousand respondents. They are also adapted to each type of company, as they represent a general average. We do not offer more targeted benchmarks within our surveys, as they could be less relevant.
However, we do provide more targeted benchmarks in analyses conducted by our consultants as part of 10ThingsToKnow services, when these benchmarks are sufficiently reliable.
